The students who fulfill the University and Department requirements and acquire 128 credits are qualified for graduation. The three components of the English Department Curriculum are designed to carry out the Department Vision. The Basic Language Courses train students' English language, communication and presentation skills. The Basic Content (Language Studies and Literature) Courses  introduce students to literature in English, linguistics and Western civilization in relation to Taiwanese society. The Advanced Courses include senior “Professional Writing” courses, “Advanced Chinese” courses, and “Advanced Courses.”  The Advanced Courses (further divided into Advanced LiteratureAdvanced Language Studies and Professional Training) help students further develop their analytical thinking, values, and professional knowledge through the study of a major emphasis of their own choice.  To lay a firm foundation in the humanities, students are required to take at least 3 credits respectively from the categories of Advanced Literature and Advanced Language Studies, and altogether 15 credits from the two above-mentioned categories.

Instruction in English by the high percentage of foreign professors and highly proficient local professors provide direct, intensive exposure to English and to Western culture.
