Born in Dublin, 1751, the son of
Frances (a very successful novelist and dramatist) and Thomas (an
actor/author/manager of the Theatre Royal, Dublin; wrote on English
language; godson of Jonathan Swift) Moved to London, 1754, A real Wild
Man during his life. By 1776, principle director of the Drury Lane,
later the sole proprietor. Among his plays: |

Entered politics (Parliament) 1780,
his maiden speech was brilliant, but that was the highlight of his
career there. In his writing he reacted against the sentimentalism of
the time.
