About Irish History
1. Celts came to Ireland about 600 B.C.
2. St. Patrick came to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity in 432 A.D.
3. In 6th and 7th centuries, Irish saints and monks established monasteries
and missions in Britain and western Europe.
4. The Vikings invaded Ireland around 793, established costal bases, and later on founded fortified harbour s and towns, such as Dublin.
5. Brian Boru claims his high kingship of Tara (High King of Ireland) and rules the Munster of Ireland from 975. He was dead in Battle of Clontarf in 1014.
6. From 1169 Norman started to invade southern Ireland.

About Language
1.Irish Gaelic and English are spoken in Ireland.
2. Irish Gaelic was officially proclaimed as the national language in 1937 constitution thoguh there are simply less than 1% of the population speak Gealic today.

About Food and Drink
1. The potato is not native in Ireland but originally from the Aemericas by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1585.
2. "A potato is sometimes called a Smiling Murphy."
3. Boiled bacon and cabbage is considered as most popular traditional Irish dish.
4. Four million pints of Guinness beer are produced everyday.

About Customs and Traditions
1. The official color of Ireland was originally blue, not green.
2. The official emblem of Ireland is the harp, not the shamrock.
3. The shamrock, comes from the Seamrog in Irish Gaelic, is definitely the most identifiable symbol of Ireland. It is said that St. Partick plucked a shamrock to deomonstrate the mysteries of the Christian Trinity. Later on, Shamrock is recognized as the national plant of Ireland and put on St. Patrick''s Day.
4 . Murphy is the most common surname in Ireland.
