Brendan
Behan was born in 1923 in Dublin and taught in the Chrisitian
Brotherhood till 14 years old. Later on, in 1939
Behan joined in Fianna Eireann, IRA the junior at his teen
years. For IRA bombing, he was arrested
in Liverpool and charged to three-year sentence. Behan spent most of
his early life in the prison. Behan's experience in the prison became
the background of his plays. His first successful work was The Quare Fellow (1954),
written originally in Irish concerning the controversial story of the
condemned man in the English prison. Because of its performance on
stage, this play established Behan's reputation as a playwright. He
died in Dublin in March 1964.
